Rovers draw League 2’s Carlisle United.

Following the draw of the first round of the Carabao Cup which took place on the morning of the Friday 15th June, Rovers have found out that they will make the short trip to Carlisle United, during the week commencing 13th August.

The two sides have not faced each other in this competition for 5 years, with the previous fixture – also being away at Brunton Park – ending in heartbreak for Rovers as they bowed out on penalties after draw 3-3 after extra-time.

Rovers will be hoping that they can replicate their performance from this round, last season, which saw them go to the Ricoh Arena and dispatch League 2, Coventry City by 3 goals to 1. Mowbray’s men will no doubt want to replicate that achievement and advance into the second round of the tournament, in order to try and excite the fans with a cup run, which may aid Rovers financially, depending on the tie and potential televised fixtures.

With the game typically being the second match, which teams will participate in, in their season, the game will provide Rovers with an opportunity to rotate their side and give opportunities to players who weren’t in the squad during the opening game of the season, which is still to be released.

Tickets for this game will be announced in due course, and will be available to purchase from the Rovers store, once announced.
