Conway clinches new contract.

Hot off the confirmation of Danny Graham’s contract extension, Rovers have acted in extending another fan favourites’ contract, less than 24 hours later, after confirming that Craig Conway had signed a fresh set of terms to remain at Ewood Park.

The Scot, who turned 33 at the start of May, sees his contract extended until the summer of 2019, with an option to extend it by a further 12 months, meaning the Rovers fans could be seeing Conway in the Blue and White halves up until June 2020.

The winger, who despite having some injury concerns throughout the season, managed to gather a respectable 24 appearances, which led to him grabbing 2 goals and 3 assists over the course of the season, in all competitions. Because of his injury ridden season however, most of his appearances were cut short after being taken off as a result of Tony Mowbray wanting to keep the winger fresh.

Although Conway’s numbers weren’t as prolific this season as years gone by, the confirmation of his stay at Ewood would no doubt please the supporters, who over the past four-and-a-half years, have grown to admire Conway for, not only his work-rate and his ability to read the game both offensive and defensively, but also for his vision and quality in the final third, as seen by his record of 20 goals and 40 assists in 173 games.

After joining the club in January 2014, on a late deadline day deal, from Cardiff City, Conway hit the ground running at Rovers with his all-round performances, establishing himself as an important element in Rovers’ side, as he made the left-wing position, his own. In recent times however, the 33-year old has found himself in and out of the team, mainly due to injury, however this new deal will surely spark new life into him and give him the boost he needs to get over last season and push for a consistent starting berth in Mowbray’s side.

Similarly, to Danny Graham, Conway also released a quick video, posted via Rovers’ Twitter, where he summed up his delight at extending his stay at Rovers for, what could potentially be 2 more years; “I’d like to say how delighted I am to be extending my stay at Blackburn Rovers for another year, and I really can’t wait to get back and start the new season. The club means a lot to me and I hope to see you all down at Ewood in August.”
