Scott signs fresh terms.

Rovers have continued their spree of contract extensions with Scott Wharton being the latest to agree on a new deal which adds an extra year onto the deal he agreed on, in September 2017, 11 months ago.

This new deal sees the centre-back’s contract run until June 2021, which gives him more than enough time to develop as he looks to cement himself as a starter in Rovers colours.

After joining the club in his youth, Wharton has gone from strength to strength and has certainly caught the eye of boss, Tony Mowbray during the time which they spent together during the latter part of the 2016-17 season and the early part of the 2017-18 campaign.

With over 20 League 2 appearances to his name in two difference loan spells; at Cambridge United and Lincoln City respectively, Wharton still has a long way to go before proving himself as a mainstay in Rovers’ side, however his experience of 90 minutes is unquestionable, having made around 50 appearances in the various youth leagues and first team cup competitions, which will stand him in good stead in the future.

After penning a new deal, Wharton revealed his delight at extending his time at his boyhood club, to the media team.

“I couldn’t be happier at this moment in time. To dedicate my future to the club for another 3 years is amazing and I’m delighted to have completed the negotiations. I’m working hard every day to try and improve, which the club have obviously noticed by giving me this new deal. Last season was a bit of a rollercoaster for me, after sustaining a couple of injuries in the first-half of the campaign to going out on loan to Lincoln City, and playing a part in their playoff campaign was a brilliant experience, even though we were unable to clinch promotion, but I really enjoyed the experience nonetheless. My aim for this campaign is to get 30-40 games under my belt, whether than being here at Ewood or away on loan again, because as a centre-back, consistency in your game time is invaluable experience-wise.”
