Davenport joins Rovers.

Rovers have confirmed their second signing of the summer after announcing that former Manchester City midfielder, Jacob Davenport has agreed a 4-year deal at Ewood Park.

The 19-year old box-to-box midfielder, who has some Championship experience, having spent last season on loan at Burton Albion, has joined Tony Mowbray’s side for an undisclosed fee and will be looking to add some competition in the middle of the park ahead of a long and arduous Championship season.

Following his confirmation as a Rover, Davenport sat down with the media team as the midfielder displayed his excitement at signing for a club of great such stature.

“I’m buzzing to have signed for such a great club, in Blackburn Rovers. The club has a lot of history behind it and it included the opportunity of playing regular Championship football, which was an offer I couldn’t turn down and I can’t wait to get started. My loan spell last year at Burton Albion was a good ‘growing up process’ for me as it allowed me to gain the first-team football I needed to prove to myself that I can operate at this level.”

After describing himself as a ‘defensive midfielder who likes a tackle’, Davenport admitted that the race to secure a starting berth at Ewood Park would be a tough battle, but one he was looking forward to.

With the players’ perspective noted, the media team turned their attentions towards Tony Mowbray, who was equally as delighted as Davenport to have secured the deal.

“Jacob’s addition gives us depth in our midfield, along with a left-footed balance in the middle of the park. All of the midfielders have to compete with him, which includes new signing Joe Rothwell, as nobody is guaranteed a starting place. The players who make the first team sheet of the season are the ones who understand how we play, which is why preseason will be important for Davenport to learn our style. I’ve spoken to certain people at Burton who spoke highly of his attitude towards training and towards games. Additionally, I think with the number of clauses City have placed in his deal, shows how highly they think of him and how much potential they believe he has.”
