Rovers have today, announced that defender Elliott Ward has departed Ewood Park and signed for fellow League One outfit, MK Dons, on a season-long loan.
The 33-year old defender has recently fell down the pecking order at the Blues, following the permanent signing of Paul Downing and the imminent returns to fitness of Darragh Lenihan and Scott Wharton, so has turned to the Stadium MK for some first team opportunities.
One of former manager Paul Lambert’s signings, Ward has donned the blue and white halves, 30 times for the first team in his 2 years at the club, scoring a solidary goal, against Preston North End, in the 2015-16 season.
Despite playing in 10 games at the start of the current campaign, due to the injury that Darragh Lenihan sustained on the opening day of the season, Ward has found it hard to nail down a spot in the side besides Charlie Mulgrew, ever since the arrival of Paul Downing, and with Downing signing a permanent deal at Ewood earlier on in the window, this might be the right opportunity for Ward – whose contract expires in the summer – to put himself in the shop window and hopefully secure a contract at MK Dons, or elsewhere.
