Rovers have today confirmed that Tayo Edun has left Ewood Park on a permanent deal, signing for Charlton Athletic on an undisclosed fee, which includes add-ons.
Edun, who signed for Rovers for a fee rumoured to be around £500,000 in August 2021, by previous boss, Tony Mowbray, has found life hard under current gaffer, Jon Dahl Tomasson, only making 13 appearances in all competitions, with eight of them coming in the Sky Bet Championship. The left-footer, who is capable of playing both down the left-hand side and in the centre of midfield has seen most of his game time come in the Carabao Cup, starting in the first three rounds, before coming off the bench at half-time in the 4-1 home defeat to Nottingham Forest in December.
Despite collecting some time on the field in the early weeks of the season, providing as cover for Harry Pickering on the left-hand side of the defence, as Tomasson assessed his squad in the early part of his reign, the 24-year-old had not featured in the league since the 3-2 home defeat to Bristol City in early September, before making a cameo appearance in the 1-0 New Year’s Day victory against Cardiff City at Ewood Park. With only the one league start to his name, Edun – who signed an initial deal until 2024, with an option to extend to 2025 – will be looking to kickstart his career following a difficult spell in Lancashire.
Former club Lincoln City, who were linked with a reunion with the Rovers number #7, will no doubt be delighted to hear the news of their former player’s departure, as they retain ‘a future interest in the player,’ meaning they are set for a cash windfall.
Good Luck, Tayo!
