Rovers have confirmed their first incoming of transfer deadline day, with the loan signing of Cardiff City full-back, Greg Cunningham, on a season-long loan deal.
The 28-year old Irish defender, joins the Ewood Park side following a less than successful Premier League campaign with recently-relegated Cardiff City, with only 7 league appearances to his name, having joined the Welsh side at the start of the 2018-19 season.
The left-back is no stranger to Lancashire, having spent 3 years of his career at Preston North End, before making the £4m switch to Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds, last summer. Prior to making the switch to Preston, Cunningham, who is vastly experienced in the Championship with 173 appearances in the league, was on the books of Bristol City, Leicester City and Nottingham Forest, which highlights his experience and knowledge of the division.
Cunningham, who is highly-rated by fans and managers alike, had a number of options available to him over the course of the window, after being told he was surplus to requirements in Wales, however believed that Tony Mowbray’s side was perfect for his career ambitions.
With the defender having the ability to play both, at full-back and centre-back, Rovers fans will be hoping that Cunningham’s added experience will aid Rovers’ relatively young defence towards gaining clean sheets.
