A week after agreeing a temporary switch to Southend United until the end of the campaign, Rovers have announced that left-back Sam Hart has extended his stay at Ewood Park until the summer of 2020.
The 22-year old former Liverpool defender, who signed for Tony Mowbray’s side, almost 18 months ago, has put pen-to-paper on a new 1-year extension at the football club, which is set to expire at the end of next season.
Although he was highly rated by many Rovers fans, and showed flashes of what he was capable of during his handful of cameo appearances last season, Hart has ultimately found regular football hard to come by ever since making the move to Lancashire, and in spite of a couple of loan spells at Rochdale, he has yet to impact both Rovers’ team, or that of Keith Hill’s when he was there.
Despite only 13 appearances for the ‘Dale’, Hart was recalled by Rovers in early January before being sent out to League 1’s Southend United, where he has already made his debut, which came last Saturday in a 4-0 victory over a struggling Bradford City side. With Hart, by Chris Powell’s own admission, already making a good first impression, both Hart and Rovers fans will be hoping that the defender can kick-on and improve his game in order to try and stake a claim for a berth in Mowbray’s side, upon his return.
