Corry commits future.

Corry commits future.

Rovers have continued their flurry of contract extensions, with Northern Irish international, Corry Evans, becoming the latest player in Blue and White, to commit his long-term future to Ewood Park.

Following on from fellow players, David Raya, Darragh Lenihan, Charlie Mulgrew, Richie Smallwood, Elliott Bennett, Bradley Dack, Joe Nuttall, Lewis Travis and manager Tony Mowbray, Evans becomes the tenth body within the club to sign a new deal this calendar year, a sign of nothing but positivity on behalf of the club.

The 28-year old, who was part of Northern Ireland’s squad at Euro 2016, has extended his stay at Rovers until June 2021, after signing a new two-and-a-half-year deal. With 168 appearances under his belt for Rovers since joining the club from Hull City in the summer of 2013, this new deal will no doubt, see him break the 200 barrier over the next few years.

After signing on the dotted line, the tough-tackler spoke to the club’s media team to express his happiness and excitement.

“I’m delighted to have committed my future to this club, because it was a no brainer for me. It’s been something that has rumbled on for a while now, but I’m just delighted to have got it wrapped up so that we can concentrate on the football.

“I’ve loved my time here at this brilliant football club and although we’ve had a few low points along the road, I firmly believed that we’re on the rise now, especially after the manager and a few of the lads also committed their future to the club, a short while ago.

“I think, ever since the gaffer has come in, he’s improved us all as players, whilst also adding to the quality we’ve got, which is always good. I’m looking forward to the next few years to see how this team can grow moving forward!”

Tony Mowbray also spoke of his delight after one half of his midfield duo extended his stay at Ewood Park.

“Corry is an important player for how we play. He’s economical in his movements and knows how we play as a team. He’s efficient and effective in what he does because, with all due respect to him, he’s not an individual you’d expect to run past a few and slot the ball home into the bottom corner, but he knows how to excel and help the team.

“Every manager wants players you can trust, and Corry is one of many at this club and I’m delighted that he’s decided to commit his future to the club and I hope that we can repay his loyalty by being successful together.

“He’s someone who often doesn’t get the plaudits his performances within the team should deserve, because he’s not the one scoring the goals, but his importance to how our side operates, is vital. He’s another cog in our machine.”
