Rovers have begun their transfer activity in the summer window with a contract extension, rather than a new signing, after it was confirmed that veteran striker Danny Graham would continue his career in the Blue and White of Rovers.
The forward, who’s set to hit the age of 33 in mid-August, was out of contract come the end of June, and was reportedly by scouted by Rovers’ Lancashire rivals, Bolton Wanderers, however Graham quelled any speculation that would have been hanging over his head by agreeing on a fresh set of terms with Rovers.
The new deal, which extends the strikers’ stay at Ewood Park by 12 months, has a clause which will potentially allow Tony Mowbray to trigger an extra year onto Graham’s deal come this time next year, if the Gateshead-born attacker continues his form from last season, which saw him bag 17 goals as Rovers got out of League 1 at the first time of asking.
After making a permanent move to Ewood in the summer of 2016, following a successful loan spell, Graham has gone from strength to strength in Rovers colours, proving himself to be a vital cog inside Mowbray’s machine, not just on the goals front, but by being presence at the top end of the field, with his ability to hold up the ball and win headers.
With the deal being announced via Twitter, Graham appeared in a short video where he expressed his delight at extending his stay; “I’m delighted to have signed a new deal. I’m looking forward to the new season and the challenges that lie ahead and I can’t wait to see everyone down at Ewood Park at the start of the season.”
Despite Graham’s message being short, but sweet, it’s obvious that both the player and the manager believe that Graham still has a lot to give to the side, both in-terms of experience and technical ability.
