Rovers have today announced that Liam Feeney’s loan deal with Cardiff City, which was initially scheduled to end in January, has been extended until the end of the 2017-18 season.
The 30-year old, who re-signed for Rovers at the start of the 2016-17 season has seen his loan-spell at the Cardiff City Stadium prolonged, as he clearly caught the eye of Neil Warnock during the first 6 months of his loan.
So far, the midfielder has racked up 13 appearances for the Welsh side and has one assist to his name, however he clearly did enough in his performances and in training to convince Bluebirds manager Warnock to renew the loan spell.
As the winger’s contract expires at the end of the season, it will be interesting to see whether Feeney will return to Ewood Park, or whether Cardiff will try and purchase the midfielder. However with Rovers doing well in League One so far, the midfielder’s opportunities were always going to be limited in Lancashire, so this move is best for all parties.
For Rovers, this deal will potentially ease the wage bill, which will allow Rovers to focus their funds on incoming targets to potentially replace the outgoing winger.
