Rovers have confirmed that Liam Feeney has left Ewood Park to sign for Championship side Cardiff City on a 6-month loan deal.
The winger, who joined Rovers last summer on a free transfer, has found opportunities hard to come by at Ewood Park, especially following Tony Mowbray’s appointment towards the end of last season.
The 30-year old has had two spells at Rovers, the first being a loan spell in 2013-14, where he only managed 6 appearances. However, in the year that he has been at the club since resigning in the summer of 2016, Feeney has made 43 appearances in all competitions, with 15 of these appearances being off of the bench. Despite this, his goal & assist ratio is underwhelming, with only one goal to his name, coupled with 5 assists.
Feeney, who has amassed a lot of Championship experience, with the likes of Millwall, Ipswich and Bolton, will see the move to Cardiff City as a chance to resurrect his career as it will give him the opportunity to either secure a permanent move to the Bluebirds, or to stake his claim for a first team place at Ewood upon his return.
From a Rovers perspective, hopefully his loan switch to Cardiff will re-energise him and help him improve his end product for a potential return to Rovers, despite him being in the latter stages of his career.
