With February at an end, and the March football already up and running, Rovers managed to end the last month with the re-grouping and re-capturing of their positive form which saw them go 18 games unbeaten in the league.
As a result of the re-emergence of the fine form, Newcastle loanee, Adam Armstrong – who has so far contributed 5 goals and 2 assists in his 11 games for the club – has earnt himself the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month award after scoring 4 goals, and grabbing 1 assist in the 6 games that Rovers played in February.
The forward himself, is no stranger to awards in the third tier of English football, as during his spell at Coventry in 2015-16, he picked up the August 2015 Player of the Month award before finishing the League 1 season with 20 goals from 40 games and finding himself in the League’s Team of the Year.
After receiving his award, Adam sat down with the clubs’ media team to discuss his feelings and his form that led to the trophy.
“To pick up this award, is brilliant. Personally, I think I’ve had a good month, but I couldn’t have done with without the lads who are behind us forwards and producing the assists, so I’d like to dedicate this award to them. We’re doing really well at the minute, so hopefully we can keep it up. I think, most importantly, it’s about the team effort and if we can get to the highest position that we can, that’ll be brilliant and if I’m scoring goals, it’ll make the effort even better.
I think we’ve got a great atmosphere within the squad and the togetherness we’ve got, is great. Everyone has been great to me since I’ve come in and they’ve really made me feel welcome, which is good. I’ll have to say that my favourite goal was the volley against Portsmouth, even though they all count for the same number of goals, it was a good strike. We’re top of the league, I’m scoring goals and the lads are playing really well, you can’t ask for much more as a footballer, so long it may continue.”
