An outstandingly fearless display by Rovers has seen them rewarded with a Quarter Final tie against Sheffield United.
Rovers made it to the last eight for the first time since 2014-15, following a trailblazing 2-1 victory against fellow former Premier League Champions, Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday evening, beating Brendan Rodgers’ side in the Northern Irishman’s 200th game in the Foxes dugout. Rovers – ball number #2 in Wednesday evening’s BBC1 draw – had made it this far after dispatching fellow Championship duo, Norwich City and Birmingham City – the latter following a replay.
Whilst both sides are scheduled to meet this weekend at Ewood Park in a mouth-watering clash towards the top of the Championship, both sides will have one eye on a potential trip to Wembley Stadium for a semi-final clash.
Sheffield United saw their path to the Sixth Round opened on Wednesday night as a late winner from Iliman Ndiaye sent Tottenham Hotspur packing, as the Blades secured a 1-0 victory which saw them enter the Quarter Final. Paul Heckingbottom’s men, who are flying high in second place in the Championship overcame fellow second tier side, Millwall, National League side Wrexham following a replay and perennial bottlers, Tottenham Hotspur to set up a War of the Roses in the Quarter Final.
This clash has been preliminarily scheduled for the weekend of Saturday 18th March, meaning Rovers’ game vs East Lancashire rivals & fellow Quarter Finalists, Burnley has had to be rescheduled.
