After Blackburn Rovers were humbled and served up their first defeat of the league season, courtesy of a Reading side who ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, Head Coach Jon Dahl Tomasson reflected on a disappointing night for his side.
“The players have been excellent so far, since we have been here, both during the games and in training. Today was a step back, we were not good at all. We didn’t play well and we made all the wrong choices, today. We also have to give credit to Reading, who played a great game. I hate losing. It’s frustrating when you lose games and I feel sorry for our supporters who’ve travelled a long way and who kept on supporting us in defeat. I would like to apologise to them. It’s always great to have their support, even when things aren’t going well on the pitch, but we did not play a good game or perform well.
“We made all the wrong choices, tonight. We didn’t do the things we should have done and what we spoke about before the game. So far, the players have been excellent, but we were not good today and we have to be honest about that. Losing is part of football. We were never going to win every game, but it still hurts, because losing isn’t nice. When you love football, you hate losing like this and although we have to give Reading credit, I think we have to stick together. As excellent as the players have been, today was not good, but we have a very important game on Saturday against Sheffield United which we’re looking forward to. Our attention turns to Saturday now, but we should all be disappointed, including the fans, with tonight, because it was not good enough.
“Football is about a couple of crucial moments that decide whether it’ll be your day or not. Today, we were not on the right side of the scoreline. Reading scored some ‘simple’ goals against us, but we have made some great steps forward since we joined the club. We will win games and we will lose games, but today was a step backwards in our journey. We need a good reaction at the weekend. We know Sheffield United are a good side, but we need to react after tonight. We need to do the right things, instead of making the wrong choices.”
