Rovers have delighted their supporters by announcing that fan favourite and Belgium national team goalkeeper, Thomas Kaminski, has penned a new deal to stay at Rovers until 2025!
The shot-stopper, who joined Rovers at the start of the 2020-21 campaign, from KAA Gent in his homeland for a reported fee of around €500,000, has been a revelation between the posts at Ewood Park and has aided Rovers in their quest to challenge for a Premier League return.
Kaminski, whose initial deal at Ewood Park, was set to expire in June 2023 – after Rovers were set to trigger an option, they held to extend his contract by a year from the initially agreed June 2022 expiry date – has put doubts about his future to rest by agreeing on a fresh set of terms that will see him remain at Ewood Park for the next three-and-a-half years!
The 29-year-old, who since moving to England has become a part of Roberto Martinez’s Belgian squad – even making it to last summer’s EURO 2020 quarter final, after former Liverpool goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet withdrew due to injury – has spoken highly of his love for the club and their fans, as well as discussing how quickly he and his family settled in England, following his turbulent move to the UK, at the height of the pandemic.
Despite Rovers’ lacklustre 15th place finish, last season, Kaminski showed his worth to the side in his premier season in Blue and White as, despite not even watching him live, the Ewood Park faithful voted the Belgian as their Player of the Season, for 2020-21, highlighting his cruciality to the side, with the 10 league clean sheets he kept in 43 games, last campaign.
This campaign, despite Rovers’ switch in their style of play, Kaminski has not let his standards drop and has shown why Rovers have knocked back interest from Premier League sides for their goalie. The experienced ‘keeper, who has amassed over 350 total appearances in a career that has spanned over four countries and has seen him be a two-time Belgian champion, as well as a Danish champion, has built on his fine maiden campaign at Ewood Park, by producing mesmerising saves at crucial moments this season, to aid Rovers in their challenge for promotion. With 10 clean sheets in 29 league appearances for Tony Mowbray’s side, the goalie will no doubt want to repay the club and the fans for their faith in him by helping the side reach the Promised Land.
Congratulations, TK!
