Rovers have rounded off a successful opening month to the campaign by adding what will hopefully be the first of many accolades this season, after Bradley Johnson scooped the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month Award for September.
After netting three times during the first three games of the season, which included a brace at former club Derby County, after netting in Rovers’ opening day defeat at Bournemouth, Johnson’s contribution both, to Rovers’ goal tally and their impressive numbers in both, the centre of midfield and as a team on the whole, could not be bypassed by the voting panel who decided that Johnson – who had never received this honour despite a successful career in the second tier – was the deserved recipient of the award.
The praise for Johnson did not stop with this award, however, as his first strike against the Rams was nominated for September’s Goal of the Month Award, which the midfielder sadly missed out on.
The 33-year old, who played in 34 of Rovers’ 46 league games last campaign was rightly named in the Championship Team of the Week on three consecutive occasions to start this season off, as Rovers earnt a respectable six points from a possible nine in September. With such a dominating start to the season, the towering midfielder has surely cemented his place in the team for the foreseeable future.
Congratulations, Johno!
Here’s to many more accolades for the squad, in what will hopefully be a successful campaign!
