After successive loans in League Two during the 2018-19 season, at Lincoln City and Bury, respectively, coveted Rovers defender, Scott Wharton has secured a third successive League Two loan, after being confirmed as Northampton Town’s latest recruit until the end of the upcoming campaign.
The 5’10” centre-back has also extended his stay at his parent club in the process, by agreeing an extension to his stay at Ewood Park until 2022, after joining the club in his youth.
Since bursting onto Rovers’ radar from the youth academy in 2016, after making his first-team debut in a 2-2 draw at home to Burton Albion in 2016, Wharton wasted no time in grabbing his first goal for the club, which came only 3 days later, as Rovers edged past Crewe Alexandra, 4-3.
After his cameo in the first-team, Wharton has spent the past number of seasons plying his trade in the lower divisions of the Football League, with the likes of Cambridge United, Lincoln City and Bury, the latter pair with whom, he qualified for promotion medals with, last season due to Bury taking over his loan deal from Lincoln in January 2019.
With this experience of playing in both promotion winning League Two sides last season, Wharton will be hoping he can apply his winning touch to Northampton Town for this upcoming season, before potentially returning to Rovers in order to fight for his place.
