Rovers advanced into the 2nd round of the 2018-19 Carabao Cup following a 5-1 win over Carlisle United in the 1st round, courtesy of a man of the match performance from Bradley Dack, which saw the playmaker have a hand in all 5 goals.
The 2nd round draw took place live on Sky Sports and included the two remaining Championship sides – Swansea City & Stoke – who directly advanced to the 2nd round as they were the highest finishing teams from the Championship, as a result of being relegated in 18th and 19th in the 2017-18 Premier League, respectively.
With the draw being separated into teams from the North and the South of the country and despite it being unseeded, Rovers – ball #2 in the draw – were handed a home tie against pre-season opponents Lincoln City, who managed to overcome another of Rovers’ pre-season opponents, in Port Vale by beating them 4-0, in the 1st round. The clash is set to take place at Ewood Park, on the week commencing August 27th, with a confirmed date to be set in the near future, along with ticket information.
As hinted at, the 2 teams have been familiar with each other over the past 12 months, with the negotiations for both of Scott Wharton’s loan deals filling up most of the conversations between both clubs. Although the defender made the switch to Sincil Bank following the July fixture, he will be unavailable for Danny Cowley’s side, when the clash occurs.
