Following the conclusion of a busy period, where Rovers played 4 league games in the space of 10 days, Tony Mowbray, Charlie Mulgrew and Marcus Antonsson have all been rewarded for their respective efforts in Rovers’ 100% record for November.
Mowbray and Mulgrew were awarded with the Sky Bet League One Manager and Player of the Month award, respectively, for November on Friday, whilst Antonsson was voted the PFA Bristol Street Motors League One Fans’ Player of the Month for November, on Thursday, after a poll voted the Swede, as November’s best third tier player.
Mowbray became the first Rovers manager since Mark Hughes in October 2007, to win the award, and it was his first since winning the Championship Manager of the Month for October, back in 2012, when he was in charge of Middlesbrough. Speaking to the clubs’ media, Mowbray heaped praise onto his players and staff, claiming that his reward was “a show of everybody’s efforts and it reflected the hard work of both the players on the pitch and the staff behind the scenes.”
Mulgrew, on the other hand, became the first defender since Aden Flint – in March 2015 – to be named as Player of the Month. The award capped off a great month for the Scot, who – in addition to his sound defending – managed to grab 4 goals in as many games as he helped Rovers cap off a perfect November. Mulgrew also spoke to the media, where he was very gracious towards his teammates; “I’d like to offer a big thank-you to my teammates for creating the chances that’s allowed me to score my goals. The important thing now is to concentrate on the busy December period and to keep our good form going.”
Additionally, Antonsson rounded-up the hattrick of awards for Rovers, after being named PFA Bristol Street Motors League One Fans’ Player of the Month for November, following his prolific month, where he bagged 3 goals in the 4 league games that he had played. The on-loan Leeds man, much like Mowbray and Mulgrew, was delighted to receive his award, and he too, spoke highly of his teammates; “We took a good step forward in November and the most important thing is that the team wins, regardless of individual awards. The confidence is high right now, so hopefully we can continue our form in December and push towards the top two.”
