Rovers have drawn Crewe Alexandra in the 2nd round of the FA Cup following their 3-1 win over Barnet in the 1st round.
The 2nd round draw took place live on BT Sport and the BBC, and included many non-League teams, such as Boreham Wood and Slough Town who have made FA Cup history in their respective record books by reaching this round.
Rovers – ball #15 in the draw – were drawn at home against Crewe Alexandra, which is a repeat of last season’s EFL Cup second round tie. The game will be played at Ewood Park over the weekend of 1st to the 4th of December, with a confirmed date to be set in the near future, along with ticket information.
The opposition, who currently lie in 18th place in League Two, had to overcome Rotherham United in the first round, after The Railwaymen beat the Yorkshire side by 2 goals to 1. Despite the fact that Crewe are not having the best of seasons, Rovers will be wary of the threat that League 2 teams possess, after they were given a scare by Barnet in the first round. Additionally, Rovers will be hoping that there isn’t a repeat of last seasons’ game, which ended in a thrilling 4-3 win for Rovers after they came back from behind twice, to seal the game in extra time.
Rovers’ fans will be hoping that they can overcome another side from the fourth tier in order to have a crack at playing the Championship or the Premier League teams, who enter the competition in the 3rd round. Concurrently, Crewe will be hoping that they can reach the third round of the cup for the first time in 9 years, when they were knocked out by Millwall in the 2008-09 FA Cup following a replay.
