“Tonight was a great response to the manager’s criticisms of us on Saturday.”

After opening his Rovers goal-scoring account with a slick finish on the 85th minute to put Rovers 2-0 up at home to Rotherham United, Harry Chapman reflected on his goal and the performance as a whole with the club’s media team.

“It was a great goal, at 1-0 the game’s a bit iffy but we see the game out at 2-0 and put them down. They started to panic a bit, launching long balls into our box, which played into our hands. It was a little one-two off of the goalie, I’ve come on and made an impact and I’m happy to get my first goal, but what’s more important is that we got the three points.

“My somersault celebration is something I’ve been doing ever since I was 6 or 7 and it has stuck with ever since. Derrick (Williams) was just about to jump on me and I told him to move back so I could pull it off but at the end of the day, we got the three points. Goals are always nice, but I think you need to be in the right place to get them. The timing of the goal was crucial as they began to pile on the pressure. They had a goal disallowed before I came on and the second goal eased the pressure off of us whereas they started panicking.

“Tonight was a great response to the manager’s criticisms of us on Saturday; we’ve just shown that our home form isn’t as bad as everybody has made it out to be. We were a lot more confident than the fans thought we were, but at the end of the day, we’re here to win football matches and that’s what we’re doing. Yeah, I got the feeling that the fans enjoyed the performance as in the first half, we totally outclassed them and played them off the park, they didn’t have too many chances, I don’t think they were in our half much and in the second half, they piled a bit more pressure on, but we were comfortable and our class showed in the end.

“I’d love to get my first start now and just kick on, keep on scoring more and hopefully keep getting three points. It’s entirely up to the boss whether I start or not, I’m not really bothered if I’m not starting, just as long as team is winning and doing well.”
